First Creation
PERSY RAN AROUND THE Underworld in his deer form, showing Hades what he had learned since the last time they had met during the summit. As he walked, little leaves fluttered around him. Hades watched from his throne as Persy ran around the large pillars lining the hall, giggling.
Hades found himself distracted by Persy, neglecting his duties as the Lord of the Underworld. And so, from that moment on, the King of Death allowed himself one day of freedom per year, to spend in the company of Persy.
"Moon!" Persy giggled, hiding underneath Hadesâ cloaks. Several years later, the goddess had finally mastered how to teleport, and blinding white smoke filled the throne room, looking like little puffs of cotton. Persy galloped around, proudly disappearing only to reappear, stumbling.
Hades overturned his cloak to reveal Persy's eyes, which were covered with his hooves.
"I can see you, little one." Hadesâ voice was mellow, conditioned to sound soothing through Persy's reddening ears. The goddess took his divine form and rested on Hadesâ lap, playing softly with the silk of his pretty petals.
"Food?" Persy asked quietly.
"No,â Hades said. "But do you want to see my whole kingdom?"
Although the little goddess did not have the slightest clue what the words meant, he found himself nodding. Hades placed his arm around Persy's waist and carried him before they disappeared into a mixture of white and black smoke.
Hades brought Persy to the highest peak of the castle, miles before the fertile ground, to look over his kingdom. He used his powers to clear the skies four shades away from darkness, while Persy's gaze sent streams of light toward the rivers, caves, and valleys, and the darkness was replaced by the translucent rays of cobalt and ivory that Persy unconsciously radiated.
The light travelled quickly, touching the surface of each of the five rivers of the Underworld. They reacted to the light as if in pain, the flickering flames of crimson, turquoise, and white ashes like snow suspended in the air around them. Hades pointed to the longest river, which spiralled around the Underworld several times. "That is the River Styx. Thatâs what Charon rows us on every time you visit."
Persy became dizzy from following the length of the river with his eyes. Hades showed him the other four rivers: The Acheron, the river of pain; the Lethe, the river of forgetfulness; the Phlegethon, the river of fire; and the Cocytus, the river of wailing. Persy had never seen waters of such different colours, and the goddess was truly in awe. He was unaware of the monsters that lurked in the absence of light, that the personifications of diseases and the causes of death were this worldâs habitants.
"Those all belong to me. That is mine," Hades reiterated.
Persy turned and faced Hades. He blushed as he looked at the centre of the prettiest flower in the universe, resting his little hands-on Hadesâ firm chest. His eyes sparkled, and Hades now felt accustomed to the light of his sapphire eyes.
"That's mine," Persy repeated.
